Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for employees who have been nominated as an Emergency First Aider in low-risk workplaces or anyone who wants the confidence to respond effectively to a medical emergency.

It is suitable for staff working in offices, retail, hospitality, education, small businesses, community organisations and other low-risk environments. No previous first aid experience is required, making it an excellent introduction to workplace first aid.ideal learner profile for this course.

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider

  • Assess an incident safely and prioritise casualties

  • Recognise and manage an unconscious casualty

  • Perform effective CPR on an adult casualty

  • Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Assist someone who is choking

  • Recognise and respond to shock

  • Control external bleeding and manage minor injuries

  • Identify common workplace emergencies and know when to seek further medical assistancere learning outcomes for this course.

This Ofqual-regulated qualification supports compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills you need to respond confidently to a wide range of emergencies.

Course topics

The Emergency First Aid at Work course covers the essential knowledge and practical skills required to provide emergency first aid in the workplace.

Topics include:

  • Responsibilities of a first aider

  • Assessing an emergency situation

  • The recovery position

  • Adult CPR

  • Safe use of an AED

  • Choking emergencies

  • Bleeding and wound management

  • Shock

  • Minor injuries

  • Recording incidents and handover to emergency services

Learners take part in practical scenarios throughout the day to build confidence in applying these skills in real-life situations.

You'll complete short multiple-choice assessments to confirm your understanding.
