Who is this course for?

This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn the basics of first aid without completing a regulated workplace qualification.

It is ideal for community groups, charities, volunteers, sports clubs, faith organisations, parents, students and members of the public who want the confidence to help someone in an emergency.

Whether you’re looking to gain practical life skills or increase your confidence in responding to everyday incidents, this course provides an accessible introduction to first aid.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Assess an emergency situation safely

  • Protect themselves and others at the scene

  • Contact the emergency services effectively

  • Perform adult CPR

  • Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Help someone who is choking

  • Place an unconscious casualty into the recovery position

  • Control bleeding and treat minor wounds

  • Recognise the signs of common medical emergencies

  • Respond calmly and confidently until professional help arrives

This Ofqual-regulated qualification supports compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills you need to respond confidently to a wide range of emergencies.

Course topics

First Aid Essentials focuses on the practical skills that every member of the community should know.
