Who is this course for?

This course is designed for learners who already hold a valid (or recently expired, where permitted) First Aid at Work qualification and need to renew their certification.

It is suitable for workplace first aiders across a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing, engineering, education, logistics, retail and office environments. The course allows experienced first aiders to refresh their knowledge, update their skills and maintain compliance with workplace first aid requirements.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Refresh essential life-saving first aid skills

  • Demonstrate effective adult CPR

  • Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Manage unconscious casualties

  • Respond confidently to choking emergencies

  • Control severe bleeding and manage shock

  • Treat burns, fractures and soft tissue injuries

  • Recognise and respond to common medical emergencies

  • Apply current first aid guidance and best practice

  • Maintain the competence required of a workplace first aider

This Ofqual-regulated qualification supports compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills you need to respond confidently to a wide range of emergencies.

Course topics

The First Aid at Work Requalification course revisits the full range of knowledge and practical skills required of a qualified workplace first aider while reinforcing confidence and updating learners on current guidance.

Topics include:

  • The role and responsibilities of a first aider

  • Incident assessment and casualty management

  • Adult CPR

  • Safe use of an AED

  • Recovery position

  • Choking

  • Severe bleeding and shock

  • Burns and scalds

  • Fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries

  • Head, spinal, chest and abdominal injuries

  • Heart attack

  • Stroke

  • Asthma

  • Epilepsy

  • Diabetes

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Poisoning

  • Eye injuries

  • Incident reporting and casualty handover

Practical scenarios are used throughout the course to ensure learners remain confident in applying their skills in real workplace situations.
