Who is this course for?
This course is designed for all staff who need a practical understanding of fire safety in the workplace.
It is suitable for organisations of all sizes and sectors, including offices, retail, hospitality, education, healthcare and industrial settings, and works well as part of staff induction or regular team training.
No previous fire safety training is required.
What you’ll learn
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Explain how fires start and spread
Recognise common causes of fire in the workplace
Help prevent fires through good housekeeping and safe working
Understand their own fire safety responsibilities
Raise the alarm and follow evacuation procedures
Recognise the main types of fire extinguisher and what they are used for
Act calmly and safely if the fire alarm sounds
Successful learners receive the Northlight Fire Safety Awareness Certificate, valid for three years.

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills you need to respond confidently to a wide range of emergencies.
Course topics
This practical half-day course gives staff the knowledge and confidence to help prevent fires and act safely in an emergency.
Topics include:
The fire triangle and how fires develop
Common workplace fire hazards
Fire prevention and good housekeeping
Employee fire safety responsibilities
Fire detection and alarm systems
Raising the alarm
Evacuation routes, exits and assembly points
Fire extinguisher types and their uses
The role of fire marshals and wardens
Your trainer relates the course to your own workplace and fire safety arrangements wherever possible.
