Who is this course for?

This course is designed for employees who have been appointed as Fire Marshals or Fire Wardens within their organisation, as well as anyone with responsibility for assisting with fire safety procedures.

It is suitable for workplaces of all sizes and across all sectors, including offices, retail, hospitality, education, healthcare, manufacturing and industrial environments.

No previous fire safety training is required.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a Fire Marshal

  • Recognise common causes of workplace fires

  • Explain how fires start and spread

  • Identify fire hazards and reduce fire risks

  • Understand different types of fire extinguishers and their uses

  • Assist with workplace evacuation procedures

  • Carry out basic fire safety checks

  • Support emergency services during an incident

  • Promote good fire safety awareness within the workplace

  • Respond confidently and safely during a fire emergency

This Ofqual-regulated qualification supports compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

What the course covers

This course provides the knowledge and practical skills you need to respond confidently to a wide range of emergencies.

Course topics

This practical and engaging course provides learners with the knowledge required to fulfil the role of a Fire Marshal and help maintain a safe working environment.

Topics include:

  • Fire safety legislation and employer responsibilities

  • The role of the Fire Marshal

  • Fire prevention and risk reduction

  • The fire triangle and how fires develop

  • Classes of fire

  • Fire extinguisher types and their appropriate use

  • Fire detection and alarm systems

  • Emergency evacuation procedures

  • Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs)

  • Assisting vulnerable persons during evacuation

  • Fire drills and workplace inspections

  • Practical fire safety scenarios

Where appropriate, practical demonstrations of fire extinguishers and emergency procedures may also be included.

Assessment

How you’ll be assessed

Ongoing trainer assessment is used throughout the course to provide support, monitor your progress and ensure you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve the learning outcomes.

Practical assessment

You'll demonstrate your skills through practical scenarios, observed by your trainer.

Knowledge Assessment

You'll complete short multiple-choice assessments to confirm your understanding.

Meet the required standard

You'll neeed to achieve the required standard in all assessments to be awarded the qualification.
